If you are concerned about the state of our rivers and the pollution caused by the discharge of raw sewage and other pollutants into them, including our own River Avon, you may be pleased to know that plans are afoot to do more locally to monitor the water quality and to take action where appropriate. This could include litter picking too - someone commented recently about the amount of plastic pollution in and around the river.
Avon River Champions is a newly emerging group initiated at the excellent Rivers Assembly on Saturday organised by Sustainable South Hams. It already consists of residents of Thurlestone, Loddiswell, Bigbury, Aveton Gifford, Diptford, N Huish, South Brent and Holbeton and would like anyone within the Avon catchment who cares about protecting this beautiful river and its wildlife to join. We are hoping to emulate the excellent work done by the Yealm Estuary to Moor group who will be providing us with information and support - find out more about their project here: https://www.newtonandnoss-pc.gov.uk/.../yealm-estuary-to.../
